       Boerne Scenic Drives

There are two exceptionally scenic drives in Kendall County (Boerne). The first is a loop of about 33 miles starting north out of Boerne on Business Hwy. 87. Take a right onto FM 1376 and drive about 11 miles, through hills and valleys and over low water crossings until you reach Sisterdale. Through Sisterdale take a left onto FM 473 heading towards Comfort. Approximately 3 miles down the road there is a left turn, marked with a small sign, Zoeller Road. Take this turn and drive off into some of the prettiest countryside in Kendall County. You will cross the Guadalupe River twice before you reach the community of Welfare. The last portion of Zoeller Road runs alongside the River with its magnificent canopy of cypress trees. In Waring take a right onto the Welfare Road. Stay on this road through Welfare until you reach the intersection with Hwy 289. From here you can get back on IH-10 eastbound into Boerne. Although small, these roads are all paved and offer glimpses of near perfect Hill Country scenery.

The second drive is a 45 mile loop starting at the intersection of Hwy. 46 and FM 474 on the eastern edge of Boerne. Take a left off Hwy. 46 onto FM 474. Stay on FM 474 over the Guadalupe River to its intersection with FM 473. Take a right on FM 473 to Kendalia. At Kendalia, turn right onto FM 3160. You'll cross the Guadalupe River again before reaching Bergheim on Hwy. 46. Take a right on Hwy. 46 back to Boerne.

If you want a longer, but exceptionally scenic trip, start out as you would for the first trip, but turn right onto FM 473, just before you reach Sisterdale. Stay on FM 473 all the way to Kendalia, then back to Bergheim and Boerne as in the second trip.

These drives will give you a good cross section of the Hill Country - rolling hills, the clearflowing Guadalupe, numerous picturesque creeks, broad valleys, and rugged canyons.
